Oscar Kihika is a former President of the Uganda Law Society – a post he held for two consecutive terms. His practice as an advocate spans over a wealthy and diverse 20 years’ experience.

Ebert Byenkya is a founding partner at the firm and is largely responsible for having built up the Firm’s blossoming practice.

Owing to his multifaceted legal prowess, Ebert was most recently appointed as Lead Counsel to the Commission of Inquiry into Land matters which was charged to investigate into the effectiveness of Law, Policies and processes pertaining to Land acquisition and registration.
Dinah holds a Masters of law degree in Energy, Environment and Natural Resources from Tulane University United States. She holds Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom and a Post Graduate Diploma from the Law Development Centre. She pursued a certificate course with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), United Kingdom. She joined the firm in 2011 and specializes in Energy and Environmental law, corporate advisory and commercial transactions specifically, mergers and acquisitions and intellectual property. Dinah lectures at the Uganda Christian University where she teaches oil and gas and insurance law.
Dinah radiates confidence and exacts finesse that few of her peers can match. She is a terrific draftswoman where complex documents are concerned. In addition to being credited as a partner at the firm, Dinah is attached to the litigation and the securitization departments where she is considered ‘concise and on top of things’.
Blaisie Paulsen previously served as Managing Partner and currently heads the Firm’s Corporate Finance, Banking and Securitization department. She represents both lenders and borrowers in secured and unsecured financing, refinancing and debt restructuring. Blaisie undeniably excels at tailoring creative solutions in complex securitization transactions. She has been involved virtually in every major financing deal that the firm handles.
Blaisie is held in high esteem by market commentators like the publishers of Chambers Global who commended her as a ‘very professional’ and ‘very responsive’ attorney. She is highly experienced at representing clients in the banking and finance sector, as well as advising on real estate and other commercial transactions.

Byenkya, Kihika & Co. Advocates is proud to announce Dr. Anthony C.K. Kakooza as the firm’s newest Partner. Dr. Kakooza prides himself with over sixteen years as a renown scholar and practitioner in the specialized area of Intellectual Property law. He is joining a firm of Advocates which has been in existence since 1992 as a leading litigation and commercial law firm in the country. Through his addition, the law firm is thus looking at further prominence with the inclusion of Intellectual Property legal practice as one of its core areas.
Dr. Kakooza holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University; a Master of Laws in International Economic Law, with a focus on International Intellectual Property Law, from Warwick University (U.K); and a Doctorate (J.S.D) in Intellectual Property and Cyber Law from the University of Illinois (U.S.A). He is also an accredited Arbitrator and Mediator of Intellectual Property Disputes with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Dr. Kakooza maintains an active membership in both the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society. He is the current head/Convener of the Intellectual Property Cluster (2021-2022) of the Uganda Law Society and has been branded as “the Godfather of Intellectual Property law in Uganda” by the 2021 issue of the World’s Leading Trademark Professionals (WTR 1000) Magazine. He is also a member of the ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Committee in the International Trademark Association (INTA).
Dr. Kakooza is a Commissioner with the Uganda Law Reform Commission and a Board member of the Uganda Christian Lawyers Fraternity. He is passionate about mentorship and grooming young lawyers. He teaches Intellectual Property law at Uganda Christian University and Makerere University, and as a Visiting Professor at Masaryk University in the Czech Republic, Cornell Law School and University of Illinois in the U.S.A. He has published numerous articles on Intellectual Property law, Cyber Law and Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Expressions. He has also engaged in numerous consultancies related to Intellectual Property law at the national level as well as internationally for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Africa Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO).
Bazira is a newly appointed Partner working with the firm’s dispute and litigation department. His practice specializes in commercial litigation and regulatory enforcement, with a focus on banking, land and property law, conveyance, contract law, defamation suits, company law, white collar crime and corporate commercial law. He has significant experience handling a wide range of high profile litigations, including company disputes, banking, constitutional petitions, energy law and employment law.
Bazira is a teaching assistant at Uganda Christian University, Mukono, where he tutors students in the subjects of contract law, labour law, banking & negotiable instruments, administrative law and environment law. He’s also a recipient of the UCU Law Society, Outstanding Tutor of the Year Award, 2019. Bazira has a competent and engaging personality, with ability to get right down to the point. He is conscience and disciplined in approach.
Ruth holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University, a Post Graduate Diploma from the Law Development Centre and a certificate in International Taxation from East African School of Taxation.
Ruth is a member of Uganda law society and East African Law society.
She previously worked with URA and advised the firm on International and domestic taxation matters. She currently specializes in all aspects of Family Law, with emphasis on complex financial matters, including those involving business assets, trusts, custody, adoption and those with an International element.
Ruth is a confident, young woman with a pleasing personality and excellent communication skills. She is patient, dynamic, innovative, optimistic and result-oriented.
Eric holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Carleton University, Canada and an LLM in International Commercial Law from the University of Kent, UK.
He has years of experience working in Energy, Power and utilities sector, particularly in the field of Renewable Energy, Oil and Gas, Power Purchase Agreements and Energy Transactions. Eric understands the opportunities, technologies and the challenges the sector presents. His focus areas include; Project5 Finance, Energy Regulation, Mergers and Acquisitions, Joint Venture Development Agreements and Turnkey Project Structuring. Eric is also a Certified Mediator and an Accredited Court Mediator.
Eric joined the Firm at Associate level and continues to demonstrate strong commercial instincts. He is currently working in the Commercial and Corporate departments and also offers support in the banking and securitization field. Eric is appreciated for his creative nature and voice of reason.
Ogola holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Uganda Pentecostal University. He specializes in matters of contracts, company law, land and NGO matters. He is a diligent, proactive team player that can be relied on to deliver results expeditiously.
Pius holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Uganda Christian University.
He specialises in banking and financial services and general commercial law with particular interest in asset and project financing, mutual funds, private equity investment, capital markets and corporate governance.
Pius is an extremely intelligent analyzer of complex situations, blessed with a good head on his shoulders.
